The Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Opole, built of red brick, is one of the most characteristic monuments of Opole. It overlooks the city with two soaring towers measuring 76 meters each, thanks to which the parish church is the tallest building in the city. It is hard to imagine the Opole cathedral without them? And yet! The towers, which added lightness to the temple, were built only in the 19th century. Construction work was completed in 1899. But this was not the only reconstruction of the church. Today's cathedral was built in the 15th century, in place of temples built successively in the 11th and 13th centuries. The first church was probably built here in the times of Bolesław Chrobry.
